A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a full time Assistant Electrical Technical Author to join the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul Definition (MROD) team, based at Raynesway, Derby.

The Submarines Business of Rolls-Royce has been providing power systems expertise to the Royal Navy’s fleet of nuclear-powered submarines since the early 1960’s.  Attached to the Availability Centre within the Services Delivery Business unit, the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul Definition team provides maintenance manuals and inspection / repair procedural documents in support of the nuclear power plant for all current operational and Dreadnought submarines. The team delivers high quality technical documents in both traditional and electronic data module formats.

The successful candidate will join the Electrical discipline team. The candidate will possess the drive, enthusiasm and determination to learn new skills and absorb knowledge from the senior team members in-order to support the long-term succession plan and maintain MRODs capability. The candidate will be required to work closely with the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Section Lead who will provide the guidance and expertise to ensure SQEP within the role is achieved.

The successful candidate will undertake a range of training covering the process and tools that underpin the role as well-as Nuclear Suitably Qualified Experienced Personal (NSQEP) training for understanding of the NSRP principles.

It is an exciting time to join MROD as the Dreadnought programme starts to gain momentum driving the team to work through a demanding programme in delivering technical publications.

The role provides an excellent foundation to learn the aspects of plant operation/upkeep and gain knowledge in the field of inspection, maintenance and repair of the nuclear plant equipment whilst performing a vital role in the business.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Liaising with design and maintenance teams.
  • Researching existing documentation / drawings for source information.
  • Following process in producing quality documentation to defined deadlines.
  • Supporting the team to respond rapidly to emergent issues when necessary.

Qualification and experience:

  • ONC/HNC or equivalent experience in electrical engineering.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Organised and methodical approach to work.
  • Team player and Good attention to detail.
  • Confident to liaise / discuss / question subject matter experts to extract relevant information.
  • Displays good behaviours being Bold, Agile and Collaborative day-to-day.
  • Continual seeks improvements.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines Business an individual has to hold a minimum of an Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if the individual does not currently already have this in place.

Due to the nature of work the Business conducts and the protection of certain assets a person has to be a UK national or in MoD approved cases a Dual National from a non ITAR country.
