Reuters is seeking acorrespondentto help drive our coverage of Asia power markets, gas consumption and the energy transition across some of the world’s most populous and fastest growing economies.

As part of the Reuters global energy and commodities reporting team, the successful candidate will write agenda-setting stories on how Asian companies and countries are navigating the path to net zero by increasing power output, upgrading grids to handle the electrification of transport, reducing emissions from power generation and industry while ensuring fast-growing energy needs are still met.

The beat is wide-ranging. You will cover the largest power markets in the region, gas demand growth, grid upgrades and outages and the launch of major new renewable energy projects. You will break news on and chronicle policy and regulatory changes that affect power supply, utility fuels, the cost of emissions, carbon markets and the deployment of nuclear power across the region. Breakthroughs in carbon capture technology and advances in the development of the hydrogen economy will also be fodder for smart stories that explore Asia’s energy transition from all sides.

About the job

As ourAsia Energy Correspondent, you will:
  • Track power, gas & LNG market development throughout Asia, contributing to regular market reports on Asia’s physicalLNGmarkets.
  • Report on how coal and other high-polluting fossil fuels are being phased out of Asia’s energy mix as cleaner power sources become more widely available.
  • Monitorthe development of major solar, wind, nuclear, biomass, geothermal and hydropower energy projects across key economies, and produce analytical stories that explain how power generation mixes and energy needs will be impacted as those new sources of power come online.
  • Expand coverage on Asian power and global carbon markets and key regulatory legislation designed to reduce carbon emissions.
  • Develop impeccable sources among key renewable energy, gas and carbon market players.
  • Break news on significant corporate and country-level energy transition strategies.
  • Develop deep market knowledge of Asia’s power generation fuels and electricity markets.
  • Identify and report out market-moving themes and trends that affect Asia’s energy industries.
  • Develop stories and formats to include graphics, pictures and TV, as appropriate.
  • Undertake some regional travel to cover industry events.


About you

To be our Asia Energy Correspondent, you will likely have:
  • At least five years of experience reporting on regional and global energy or commodity markets.
  • At least three years of reporting on wider political and industry news.
  • A proven ability to break news fast and reliably.
  • Strong news judgment, ability to write with speed, clarity and accuracy.
  • A track record in delivering longer-form stories.
  • An extensive contact book in the Asian energy industry and the enthusiasm and drive to engage directly with market participants to build on that contact book.
  • Strong data handling & analysis skills.
  • Experience working with large global teams.
  • Excellent written English
